About CU Library : Policies
: Disabilities
The Cornell University Library is committed to providing all members of the Cornell community with the best possible access to library materials and services. Thus the library will make every effort, within the limits of available resources, to meet the library needs of members of the Cornell community who have disabilities. Advance Notification. Students with short- or long-term disabilities are encouraged to register with Student Disability Services. Other members of the Cornell community with disabilities are encouraged to self-identify with the Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity & Life Quality. Advance notification enables the library to provide disability services in as timely a manner as possible. "Home" Library. It is usually best for persons with disabilities that impede their use of library materials or services to work with one particular library in the system. That "home" library should preferably be the one that holds materials or provides services that those individuals most frequently need. If, however, the library of most potential use is not accessible to them, then they should select another "home" library that is accessible. They may ask at any service desk in the "home" library to meet with the librarys primary contact person for disability services. Special Equipment. Some libraries in the system maintain special equipment to assist persons with disabilities. Any members of the Cornell community who require special equipment to make use of library sources and services should notify their "home" library as soon as possible. Document Delivery. MyDocumentDelivery is a fee-based electronic document delivery service offered by Cornell University Library. Cornell-affiliated users with permanent or temporary disabilities may use the service free of charge. When making a request, please note your disabled status in the "additional information" field on the request form. Connect to MyDocumentDelivery. Web Page. The Cornell University Library maintains this Web page specifically for people with disabilities. It will notify users of any plans or pending actions that might affect their access to materials and services, as well as communicate other useful information. A formal statement of the librarys policy on providing services to people with disabilities is also available on the Web. Questions regarding disability services for library users should be directed to Carmen Blankinship, the primary Contact Person for Disability Services (e-mail, cb16@cornell.edu; phone, 255-9567). |
