Business Information Workshops - Fall 2009

Below is an alphabetical listing of our library workshops for this semester. Registration is required for each session; a registration link follows the workshop description. If you have a question about any of our workshops, or have an idea for an additional workshop, please let us know. We also are interested in feedback from those who attend our workshops so as to help our program better meet the needs of our faculty and students.


B2B Market Research
When new technologies make bold promises, what information helps you discern the hype from what’s commercially viable? Where do you go to research the business value for B2B products and services? Bloomberg 101
Bloomberg is one of the world’s premier financial databases and provides extensive coverage of global financial markets. Learn how to navigate the system, stay in touch with Bloomberg colleagues and monitor and download data. Attendance to this workshop is limited in order to have hands-on time with the database.

Please note: This workshop is designed for those with limited or no previous Bloomberg experience. If you are already familiar with Bloomberg and would like to learn more about a particular topic, please schedule a consultation with a member of our research team.

All Bloomberg workshops will be taught at the Bloomberg terminal, located on the first floor of the Johnson School Management Library.

Building Better Business Plans
Writing a business plan? This workshop provides time-saving research strategies and demonstrates key resources used in successful business plan writing. This class will overview resources that: provide industry trends, identify competitors, and assess your customer market. Laptop recommended.

Consumer Market Research
Some of the most effective tools for consumer market research will be demonstrated, including library resources for researching product launches, market share, brands, demographics, and consumer expenditures. Databases that will be demonstrated include Mintel (consumer market trends), Euromonitor Passport (international markets), SimplyMap (US market data by geography) and Simmons' Choices 3 (brand-level data).
