Library Catalog: Catalog Requests and Services:
Holds and Recalls
A hold ensures that the person placing the
request will be next in line to receive the desired library item whenever
that item is returned. A recall, on the other hand, allows a person to request
that a library item be returned from the patron who currently has it checked out
sooner than its original due date.
To place a hold or recall request:
- Retrieve the catalog record of the item currently charged out.
- Click on the Requests button. If you have not logged in, you will be
prompted for your Cornell ID number and last name.
- Using the pull down menu, choose a type of request (Hold, Recall, Book Delivery,
or Library Annex request). Clicking the "OK" button will take you to the appropriate
form.
- Enter your Cornell ID number and select a library location to pick up the
item. For a hold or recall, please select the library that owns the book.
There is a comments box if you wish to make additional comments.
- Indicate the length of time you wish the hold or recall request to be in
effect. This is only necessary if it differs from the default of 30 days.
- Click the "Submit request" button to process the hold or recall request.
When the current borrower returns the item, you will receive a notice indicating
that the item is now available and where it will be held. These notices will
be sent to your e-mail address. If you do not have an active e-mail address,
all notices will be sent to your campus address.
NOTE: The system will not allow you to place a hold
or recall on any item you currently have charged out or have placed a hold or
recall on already.
