Computer Set-up

For optimal use of the Library Gateway and the resources in Find Articles/Find Databases, we recommend that you follow the basic configuration steps below to ensure your computer is set up correctly.  If you run into problems or have questions, please try the Report A Problem Connecting link at the foot of this page.

Basic Configuration:
Click on each button to find out if your computer is set-up properly to use the Library Gateway and Find Articles/Find Databases. To use the test buttons, JavaScript must be enabled and your browsers must be Netscape 6.2 and up or Internet Explorer 5 and up.

1. Browsers While you can use any browser to view the Library Gateway and Find Articles/Find Databases, they are best viewed with current versions of browsers.
2. Cookies Enabling Cookies is recommended for optimal use of the Library Gateway and the resources in Find Articles/Find Databases.

JavaScript

JavaScript must be enabled in order to use Find Articles/Find Databases and its resources and services.

SideCar

SideCar, which comes with Bear Access, can be used to gain access to Find Articles/Find Databases resources marked with the http://campusgw.library.cornell.edu/icons/cornell.gif (914 bytes) icon. These are restricted to currently enrolled Cornell students and currently employed Cornell faculty and staff.  

**An alternative to SideCar for authentication to use the Library's restricted resources is CUWebLogin.

5. Spreadsheet Viewing Software If you cannot access and view documents with a .wk1 or .xls extension from some Find Articles/Find Databases resources, you may have to download special software for viewing these documents.
6.

File Compression

A software utility is needed to uncompress compressed files (.gz, .tar.gz, .Z, or .zip files) available from some Library Gateway and Find Articles/Find Databases resources.
