Adjusting the Cache Setting
For Library Gateway resources to work properly, it's important to have the
correct cache setting.
Macintosh Settings
- Netscape
- Mozilla 1.4
- Safari 1.0 (No information on adjusting the cache in Safari 1.0 for Mac)
- Internet Explorer NOT recommended for Mac
Windows (PC) Settings
Netscape 6.2 and 7.x for the Macintosh
In Netsccape, the setting is called "Compare the page in the cache to
the page on the network."
- Go to the menu at the top of the page and select: Edit, then Preferences,
then click the arrow beside Advanced, then Cache.
- Under "Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network,"
select either Every time I view the page or Once per session.
- Click OK.
Mozilla 1.4 for the Macintosh
In Mozilla, the setting is called "Compare the page in the cache to the
page on the network."
- Go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen and select: Edit,
then Preferences, then Advanced, then Cache.
- Under "Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network,"
select either Every time I view the page or Once per session.
- Click OK.
Internet Explorer for Windows (PC)
In Internet Explorer, the setting is called
"Check for newer versions of stored pages."
- Go to the menu at the top of the screen and select: Tools,
then Internet Options, then Settings (under the section
"Temporary Internet Files").
- Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages," select Every visit
to the page or Every time you start Internet Explorer.
- Click OK on the Settings window.
- Click OK on the Internet Options window.
Netscape Settings for Windows (PC)
The setting is called "Document in cache is compared to document on network" or
"Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network" (Netscape
Version 7.x).
- Go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen and select: Edit,
then Preferences, then Advanced, then Cache.
- Under "Document in cache is compared to document on network" or "Compare
the page in the cache to the page on the network," select either Once
per session or Every time. (Netscape 7.x will say Every time
I view the page.)
- Click OK.
