SideCar and the Library Gateway

SideCar allows you to access databases on the Gateway that are restricted to current Cornell students, faculty, and staff. These databases are marked by this icon: . Using a process called authentication, SideCar verifies your current status by checking your network identity (NetID) and password.

Installing and Running SideCar

The SideCar application needs to be running when you access restricted databases. SideCar launches automatically when Bear Access is started, or you can launch it manually. When you click to connect to restricted databases in the Library Gateway, you will be prompted to enter your NetID and password. See the SideCar page at CIT for more information about installing and running SideCar.

SideCar may not work in certain situations. If you're using a shared Internet connection or are behind a NAT (network address translator) you will need to use CUWebLogin, an alternative method of authentication for accessing the Library's restricted resources.
