HTML I: Creating a Web Page
What is HTML? Starting from scratch, you will learn HTML tagging to create a Web page. After gaining an understanding of the basics, you will use the editing software Notetab Light to perform creating and editing tasks. We will also discuss setting up a Web page on Cornell's CUPeople Web server. Class outline.

HTML II: Intermediate HTML
This workshop assumes attendance at the HTML I workshop or basic knowledge of HTML. We will cover page design, lists, working with images, and adding color. Class outline.

HTML III: Tables and Introduction to Frames
Introduces the use of tables and frames in your Web pages. Attendance at both the HTML I and HTML II classes or fluency in writing HTML is a prerequisite for this class. Class outline.

Introduction to Style Sheets
Introduces the use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) in designing Web pages. In concert with HTML, Style Sheets act as templates, enabling more precise and efficient control over layout, fonts, colors, backgrounds, and other typographical effects, whether your Web site occupies a single page or suite of pages. Participants must have a high comfort level in writing HTML, or have attended the HTML I through HTML III classes. Class Outline. Session will meet in Uris Library Electronic Classroom.

Dreamweaver, Part I
An introduction to web page creation using Dreamweaver. Learn to create and format web pages, add images, links and tables. Class outline. Sessions will meet in Uris Library Electronic Classroom. Choose a session from the dates listed below:

Add visual and auditory impact to your presentations by using the multimedia features of Microsoft's PowerPoint. We will cover how to choose an appropriate template, create slides, insert images, sounds and hyperlinks, as well as tips for giving the presentation. Session will meet in the Uris Library Electronic Classroom.

GIS I: Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, Part I
This workshop is for people new to GIS. The workshop consists of a brief overview of GIS concepts and applications, followed by hands-on experience with GIS software (ArcGIS 9) to create simple digital maps. If time allows we will learn to create a basic thematic map using tabular data from the US census. Sessions will meet in Uris Library Electronic Classroom.

GIS II: Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, Part II
This workshop will build on the knowledge gained from GIS I, but is still introductory. We will work through two exercises, the first finding and using census data to create maps. A second exercise will explore how to use other data, such as those derived from GPS units to plot locations on a map. Sessions will meet in Uris Library Electronic Classroom.

Electronic Genealogy: Introduction to American Genealogy
The computer and the Internet are powerful tools for genealogists, but you do not have to be a professional to use them effectively. Participants will be introduced to basic tools and concepts for online genealogical research. The course will concentrate on giving you hands-on experience with two genealogical databases, Ancestry and HeritageQuest, as well as show you how to explore the many resources available on the Web and here at Cornell. Learn how to build a database of bibliographic references from a variety of resources, including library catalogs and periodical indexes. EndNote interfaces with several standard word processing programs and provides direct connections to resources, making it easy to import references and incorporate them in your writing. Class outline. Individual consultations for assistance with EndNote and other citation management products may also be arranged on request. Free to Cornell students and faculty, RefWorks is a web-based tool that helps make library research and paper writing easier. It retrieves and organizes citations from online databases, then creates correctly formatted citations or footnotes and bibliographies. Class outline. Use the Internet Like a Pro! (RSS and Social Bookmarking)
Increase your productivity and keep up-to-date using free online tools such as Google Reader and "delicious." This hands-on workshop will teach you to use these tools to effectively manage the wealth of information on the Web including journal subscriptions, news, blogs, podcasts, and announcements. Session will meet in Cornell Library Collaborative Learning Computer Laboratory.

NeoGeography: Google Maps & Google Earth
This workshop provides an introduction to the “My Maps” feature of Google Maps. Learn to record the locations of features such as houses, schools, and trails; change display styles, using a variety of icons and colors. We’ll demonstrate some other free websites that can be used to bring in data from other sources, such as a GPS unit, a list of addresses, or even a live data feed of earthquakes worldwide. We’ll also show how to share your maps and data with others, and view them in 3D using Google Earth.

“Wiki” means quick in Hawaiian. A wiki is a collaboratively-built and maintained web site that facilitates quick and easy communication, and encourages contributions from visitors. In this hands-on session, we will discuss the pros and cons of wikis for various uses and demonstrate two free web-based wikis for creating public or private wiki spaces. Please note: This session does not cover the Confluence wiki software licensed for Cornell. Session will meet in Uris Library Electronic Classroom.

In this hands-on introduction to the Confluence wiki software, we cover the basic steps of creating and editing pages, wiki markup and templates. Limited to the Cornell University community. Session will meet in Uris Library Electronic Classroom.

An introduction to finding and using images from Cornell's digital image collections and other visual resources. We will survey images search engines (e.g. Good Images, Snap), Flickr, and other free image resources, and compare them to the image collections and databases available on campus. Introduction to Video Editing with Adobe Premiere
This workshop will cover the basics of video editing with Adobe Premiere. Including: capturing video from equipment for use in Adobe Premiere, working with multiple clips, transitioning between clips, and exporting to digital format.
