Using Library Resources Off-Campus

In order to use the Library's restricted electronic resources available through Find it! and Find eJournals from off-campus you must be a current member of the Cornell community.

Please Note: The electronic collections available to the current Cornell community vary between Cornell campuses, especially between the Ithaca and Geneva campuses and the Weill Medical campus in New York City. The collections overlap extensively, but some specialized resources are only available at certain locations or to users registered with specific programs. The library catalogs for each campus indicate what is available for that location. If you do not see what you need in the library catalog at your location or if you are at a satellite Cornell location, please contact a librarian for assistance in obtaining what you need: Ask a Librarian. CU Medical College personnel with a dual appointment to the CU Ithaca Campus should contact cchelp@postoffice.mannlib.cornell.edu for help.

Technical Issues:

  1. Make sure you have an appropriate browser. Most resources work with recent versions of most browsers.

  2. Check to make sure that your browser is enabled to accept cookies. (For more information on cookies and how to enable them, click here. To test whether cookies are enabled, click here and choose Cookies.)

  3. Authenticate yourself as a member of the Cornell community:

    SideCar

    • Use SideCar if you are NOT behind a firewall, and are NOT using a shared Internet connection. If you are behind a firewall, or use a shared Internet connection, use CUWebLogin instead.

    • If you are using SideCar and are unable to connect to restricted Library resources, report the problem by choosing the "Report a Problem Connecting" link at the bottom of any Find it! page.

    CUWebLogin

    • If you are behind a firewall, and/or are using a shared Internet connection, and/or are not using SideCar, you will be prompted to use CUWebLogin.

Note: you may not be able to access electronic resources from behind a corporate firewall because ports 80/443 need to be unblocked in order for CUWebLogin to work.

    • You must completely close out SideCar to use CUWebLogin.

    • Visit the CUWebLogin page for more information about how it works.

    • If you are using CUWebLogin and are unable to connect to restricted Library resources, report the problem by choosing the "Report a Problem Connecting" link at the bottom of any Find it! page.
  4. You are now ready to use the CUL restricted electronic resources.
